Last week I wrote to the Leader of Suffolk County Council and the Cabinet lead for Education to urge them to take urgent action to increase capacity for SEND provision within Suffolk.
Last year, Saxmundham Free School closed its doors for the last time. Transforming this school into a new SEND school – which could provide both primary and secondary education - should be the number one priority for Suffolk County Council as it moves its plans forward.
Just two years ago, in 2022, the now closed school opened a state of the art SEND unit following an investment of £1.4 million. It’s sat there closed while families are battling the SEND crisis alone.
The Council have the opportunity to tackle the SEND crisis here in Suffolk, if there is the will to act.
