Felixstowe has lost all of its high-street banks — and we need action.
Felixstowe has now lost all of its high-street bank branches following the closures of Santander and Halifax in 2025.
This means residents and local businesses are now reliant on Post Offices and a limited number of ATMs for everyday banking.

But these services were never designed to replace full bank branches. In a town with over 24,000 residents, more than 1,200 businesses, and a major international port, the loss of banking services is already putting pressure on local services and making it harder for people to access their money.

I am calling for a Banking Hub in Felixstowe to restore face-to-face banking services and ensure residents and businesses can access the services they rely on.
Why Felixstowe Needs a Banking Hub
Felixstowe has an older population, more than 30% of our residents are aged over 65. Many people still rely on in-person banking and cash services.
Travelling to Ipswich to access a bank is not a realistic option for so many residents. By public transport, it can take up to two hours there and back - not easy or feasible for, many elderly or disabled residents.

Local businesses are also affected. Felixstowe’s economy is closely linked to the Port of Felixstowe, and many small businesses in retail, hospitality, and logistics still rely on regular cash deposits and face-to-face banking services.

And in the summer - our tourists should expect to be able to find and access a bank.
​
A Banking Hub would provide shared services from multiple banks in one location, supporting residents, businesses, and the wider community.
