On Friday last week, I visited the Landguard Fort and Felixstowe Museum, and heard more about the Landguard Nature Reserve Bird Observatory and nature reserve.
It was a real highlight of the week, and a chance to tour Landguard Fort – and see up close the amazing work that volunteers do to preserve our local history. It’s a real jewel in Felixstowe’s crown, and the work of volunteers has brought incredible stories to life – showing the role that our town and coastline played in the Country’s military defence during the wars, and even in peacetime.
And the Museum next door is just as special – and even a little warmer…! A brilliant army of volunteers that keep this special corner of Felixstowe going, whilst telling the stories that matter, and keeping our history alive.
As a former historian (perhaps too big a claim – though my Master’s degree was in History…) I really appreciate the work that’s gone into the archiving, and storytelling. Thank you to all the volunteers and staff that took the time to show me around.
