Today I voted in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults Bill (often called the Assisted Dying Bill). Today's vote wasn't easy, and I'm so very aware that the hand of history was on our shoulders as MPs today.

This wasn't a decision I took lightly. And I've appreciated the many hundreds of conversations, emails and meetings I've had about the Bill and its detail. I know there is strong feeling on both sides of the debate, and many will be disappointed - whilst others will be pleased.

I personally feel a real mixture of emotions, and I think thats to be expected.

But throughout this whole process I've had a strong belief that it shouldn't be up to the state to decide how an adult with terminal illness should die. And people with terminal illness should be allowed to make the decision thats right for them, and that dignity in dying is the final act of love we can give.

The result of the vote.
