Winter Fuel Update

I am delighted that the Government has expanded the Winter Fuel Payment eligibility so that all pensioners with incomes up to and including £35,000 will benefit from support.

I was very uncomfortable from the outset with the original decision to cut the Winter Fuel Payment – for a few reasons, but mostly because I felt that the eligibility threshold was too low.

I made my views known about the concerns that I had, and shared the feedback I had received from so many constituents to Government.

I am so pleased that the Government have listened to my concerns, other MPs, and the public more generally. Extending the threshold means over three quarters, or 9 million pensioners - will receive the Winter Fuel Payment.
