Yesterday the government announced the biggest overhaul of water regulation in decades. Ofwat will be scrapped and replaced with a new, powerful regulator to take on pollution, protect customers, and restore trust in the system.

This comes after we banned bonuses for polluting water bosses, making sure that water companies are finally held to account.

Here in Suffolk Coastal, I hear time and again from residents rightly angry about the state of our rivers – across the Orwell, Deben, Alde and Blythe. Our rivers and seas are the jewel in our crown, and vital for nature and wildlife – this announcement is a vital part of our commitment to both our natural environment and bill payers.

Graphic saying "Labour is cracking down on failing water companies by establishing a single powerful regulator"
