Statement on the situation in Gaza

I welcome the joint statement from the UK, France, and Canada, as well as the comments of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary, on the situation in Gaza.
What we’re seeing - the destruction of homes, the blocking of aid, the deaths of innocent people - is deeply distressing. And the forced displacement of civilians breaches international humanitarian law.
This can’t be allowed to carry on.
That’s why I support the announcements today that we have suspended trade deal talks with Israel, and are putting new sanctions on violent settler activity.
Humanitarian aid must get in. Military operations must stop. And we need a path to peace - with recognition of a Palestinian state at its heart.
