Statement on misleading information, behaviour and working together
Statement on misleading information, behaviour and working together
In politics, as in wider society, misleading and inaccurate information (whether intended or not) can promote hate, divide our society and even damage our democracy.

In the recent years, and in my time as an MP since July 2024, I've seen first hand how misleading information is damaging the way politics and debate is conducted. My office and I have received emails and social media posts that are sharing misleading information, and on occasion we've received correspondence that breaches our Acceptable Behaviour policy.

I welcome debate and enquiries from constituents of Suffolk Coastal, and where there are questions or concerns about policy or topics that are being debated by Parliament or wider society, my team and I will respond and have an open discussion. We may not always agree all the time, but we can have conversations that are calm and non threatening.
I believe fully that it is important, for all of us, to have healthy and fair conversations that deal with the issues factually, without trying to inflame issues or incite hate - I feel this is especially true for sensitive topics, where people and victims are involved. We all share that responsibility equally.
I have created a Policy page, which my team and I will seek to keep up to date on some of the main issues facing the UK and this constituency. If there is information missing from this page on an issue you care about, please email me via jenny.riddellcarpenter.mp@parliament.uk .
Statement on behaviour policy
My staff and I keep in touch with constituents about my work, take up casework on their behalf and ask for views on issues. We have a dedicated Behaviour Policy page here, which sets out acceptable behaviour and how we will engage with constituents, and the behaviour we expect in return. We also have a policy page here which says how we will use your data. These policies are based on the guidance of the Police, parliamentary security and the Government's policy on data collection.
